Pot Racks - Pot Racks in a Good Feng Shui Kitchen

Pot Racks in a Good Feng Shui Kitchen

Mount Pot Racks on the Wall If A Ceiling is Too Short

Feng Shui is the Chinese art of placement and these guidelines can be applied to decorating schemes as well as designing a functional kitchen. Every Feng Shui kitchen has good design elements and flow of traffic, but there are other things to consider in a good kitchen layout. Feng Shui guidelines suggest that everyone should be in a position so they do not feel vulnerable. We stand at the stove cooking and our backs to the door leave us in a position of vulnerability. If you have the option, place your stove in a position so you can see the door to the kitchen so you can see everyone that enters. If this isn't possible, place a mirror or mirrored tiles in front of the stove so you can see who is coming behind you. So much of these Feng Shui tips are metaphorical in nature, but they also make common sense too.

Another thing to consider is the things that are above the head. These include pot racks in kitchens and ceiling fans in bedrooms. Pot racks are fantastic design elements and are very functional in the kitchen, especially when storage is at a premium. In Feng Shui, the flow of energy is the key to feeling good in a space. If your kitchen is quite small or has a low ceiling, it may not 'feel' the best to having a pot rack hanging above your head. If you need the pot rack because you don't have enough cupboard space, consider mounting on on the wall instead of having it hang above your head. This will make a difference in the flow of Chi, as the goal is to keep the chi 'up' and not hanging down. Kitchens are also best if kept light or white in color. This suggests a clean atmosphere and very healthy cooking. Use all of the burners on the stove for balance in life and cooking. Try to keep the refrigerator, stove and sink separated because these represent the elements of fire and water. Water puts out fire so having the sink directly beside the stove is out of balance.

If you are building and decorating new home, try not to have the kitchen below a bathroom. Try to place all bathrooms as far away from the kitchen as possible. Energetically, everything flowing from the bathroom is coming down into the kitchen from the second floor. It is also a good idea to keep the kitchen away form the front door as this could make people hungrier and eat more. If the cupboards in the kitchen do not go all the way to the top, this is a good place to install lighting to again, lift the the energy of the space.

It is important to feel good in the spaces we live. Use a few Feng Shui guidelines and principles in your home and see if it does not make a difference in the way you feel.
